Oxford House Roanwood in Houston, Texas

About Oxford House Roanwood

Oxford House Roanwood is an all-female sober living home in Houston, Texas that followed the peer-led Oxford House model. This transitional residence is closed now but it gave women recovering from alcohol and drug addiction a democratically-run, substance-free space built on mutual support and shared responsibilities.

Through its self-governing structure, residents created accountability, community and lasting sobriety by taking ownership of their recovery together.

Women’s Peer-Supported Sober Living in Houston

Oxford House Roanwood provided women with a structured, substance-free home where residents support each other’s recovery after detox or rehab. The house operated under the Oxford House model and was entirely self-run and self-supporting with no fixed time limits.

Women who lived here participated in democratic decision-making, electing officers and managing daily operations together.

Each resident contributed to an Equal Expense Share covering rent, utilities, and household costs while sharing chores. This peer-led approach fostered accountability and life skills within a zero-tolerance environment for any substance use. The model emphasizes community over isolation and helped women prevent relapse through daily connection and shared purpose.

Democratic Self-Governance in Recovery

This home’s fully democratic system gave residents true ownership of their living environment. Women voted on all major decisions from new member interviews to rule changes and officer elections. This empowerment through shared leadership built confidence and self-efficacy and helped reinforce recovery skills that extended far beyond sobriety.
